In the extended entry, please find a link to the graphic I sent via email last week. The graphic showed the 80 year history of small cap vs. large cap relative performance. The extremely long periods of performance favoring one group or the other suggests that an accurate model that identified whether small or large caps were likley to outperform could provide significant value for investor portfolios. Northlake uses just such a model.

SBS Broadcasting Makes Smart Acquisition

SBTV announced the acquisition of CMore Group AB today. Here is a description of CMore taken directly from the press release:

The market liked the deal and SBTV shares rose 8% today against a poor day for the major market indices…..

Schwab Lowers Trading Costs

I received an email from Schwab today announcing that they are lowering commission charges for clients with $50,000 to $1,000,000 in assets at Schwab. The accounts do not all have to be managed by Northlake Capital Management to qualify. The new commission schedule for qualifying clients is $12.95 per trade for up to 1000 shares and 1.5 cents per trade above 1,000 shares. Presently, the schedule is $19.95 per trade for up to 1,000 shares and 1.5 cents per share above 1,000 shares….

CETV Management in U.S.

Over the lunch hour today, I listened to a presentation by CETV management to clients of Jefferies and Company brokerage firm. The CEO is based in NY but the London based CFO and COO were in the States to present the 2005 budget to the Board. Based on commentary on the call, it appears the story is intact and 2005 is setting up to be another excellent year…

February Model Signals

Northlake’s Market Capitalization and Style models held firm for February with Mid Cap and Value signals. The Market Cap model continued its drift toward large cap and is about as close as possible to shifting to large cap as it can get without actually hitting the trigger. The Style model held firmly in value mode with no movement at all from the prior month after two straight months of shifting very slightly toward growth….
